Held.
I've found myself weeping a lot lately. Weeping about life. Yes weeping over good things but mostly weeping over loss. Life is so hard. People are dying, they still haven't found the missing Malaysian airplane full of people, Little Ben Sauer is still waiting on a miracle, Today would have been the 14 month anniversary with the man I used to date, My father and I have never really had a relationship.
I know, I know. I seem to be a bit naïve. Life being hard isn't new. Loss is inevitable. It isn't that I'm just discovering this fact. I haven't had an easy life. In fact, I would say the greater majority of my life has been hard if not downright impossible.
Loss seems to be so true. It seems to be the truth. Loss seems to resonate much more than gain. Even when I've had an extremely beautiful mountain top experience, when hard times hit, those mountain top experiences seem almost nonexistence. What mountaintop? What hope? What life? What Joy?
Loss is a fact. Life being hard is a fact. But they aren't the truth. Weird huh? Fact and truth aren't necessarily the same things. Loss is a fact of life but there is no loss in Jesus. In Christ there is no loss. There is hope, life, and joy in Jesus. I'm not talking about that cotton candy, veneer, honk if you love Jesus, Bless your heart kind of hope, life and Joy. I'm talking about the real stuff.
God never promised an easy life. In fact, Jesus warns his disciples, "In this world you will have trouble . But take heart, I have overcome the world. " He says it. He doesn't allude, suggest, or hint. He comes out and says that we will have trouble in this life. But he tells us to take heart! He has overcome the world. And Jesus goes on to tell the disciples, "I will be with you even until the end of the age." Jesus isn't going anywhere. Not only is that fact but it's truth. Cling to the hope and truth that even though we experience loss and life being hard, Jesus isn't going anywhere. In him there is no loss and we are held.
